Need more queer urban fantasy romance in your life? Ready to start a new series? Evocation may be your next obsession.
The first in a four-book series, Evocation took author, S.T. Gibson, five years to write and revise, and was announced by Angry Robot Books in March 2023. Set in an enchanted, modern-day Boston full of magic and mysticism, the first book in the Summoner’s Circle series is finally getting an official cover – not that the gorgeous, foiled ARCs currently being sent out are anything to be upset about!
The official cover, which features main character, David, and plays upon the book’s themes, is beyond stunning, and was revealed this morning, October 10. According to an Instagram post from S.T. Gibson, the cover is very much a reflection of David: “Blue and silver are David’s colors, and are a reference to the labradorite ring he always wears.”
Designed by Alice Coleman and featuring art by Eleonor Piteira, the new cover, in all its sparkly glory, can be found below:

Curious about the book itself? You should be! Evocation is set to be a wild ride, one that takes readers on a supernatural journey of curses and drama all while an exes-to-rivals-to-lovers romance unfolds – one with a polyamorous endgame, according to Gibson.
Interested in meeting the main character? Check out the official synopsis, featured below:
When a family curse threatens David’s life, he will turn to the only person he’s ever trusted, his ex-boyfriend, Rhys – which means he will have to open his heart to Moira, Rhys’s wife.
The day David Aristarkhov’s occultist father died, he bought himself an Audi, drank every drop of liquor in the house, and abandoned his life as a teen psychic prodigy. Now pushing thirty, David is a Boston attorney, moonlighting as a medium for a secret society.
But when the Devil comes to collect on a deal David’s ancestor made, he reluctantly reaches out to his ex-boyfriend Rhys for help. However, to get to Rhys, David will have to befriend Moira, Rhys’s wife. The trio gets a little too close for comfort as they combine their powers to unravel the century-old curse, and if they don’t break the curse by David’s thirtieth birthday, he won’t live long enough for everyone to figure out their feelings for each other.
As if the synopsis and cover weren’t enough to pique your interest, here are some more fun facts. S.T. Gibson has described the vibes of the book as “summery, sultry, and supernatural” and it is full of “juicy sorcerer soap opera shenanigans.” There’s also forced proximity in a haunted house, secret society drama, and ancestral demons.
Did I mention the second book already has a name? And that S.T. Gibson recently finished a first draft on it?
While book two in the Summoner’s Circle series does not yet have an intended release date, we do know that it “walks the dark and winding path between the entanglements of the heart and temptation of power” and that it is set to be titled Ascension.
Now that I’ve got you interested, please pre-order this book!
Evocation is set to release with Angry Robot books in May 2024.
